I am a registered counsellor with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and a member of the Hampshire Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I have a FdA in Humanistic Counselling in Transactional Analysis (Distinction). This is a BACP Accredited counselling training course, studied over 4 years.
I have a Degree in Batchelor of Social Science (in Social Work) studied over 4 years. I have a Certificate in Adoption Support Counselling which enables me to work with Adults or Young people who are affected by Adoption.
I have 2 years experience working at two local 6th form colleges counselling students, aged 16+.
I have over 10 years experience in Health and Social Care settings working with a wide range of issues; including mental health, abuse, trauma, addiction, estrangement, separation and loss. Working in a humanistic way, means understanding you as a unique human being and offering you key empathy and compassion through a non-judgemental lens.
Briefly, Transactional Analysis is a model that helps us to understand our thoughts, feelings and behaviours. It explores how we see ourselves, others and the world we live in. It also looks at how beliefs we hold about ourselves influence our patterns of relating to others. My hope is to offer you a space to feel heard and in being heard, an ability to grow in self-understanding to better navigate your present and move forwards with hope.
How I Work With My Clients:
As we are all unique, I use a tailored collaborative approach in helping you explore this particular place in your life. The tools I use will vary depending on your needs, but I draw from a Person-Centred approach as well as Transactional Analysis. I equally rely on creative methods to aid communication and draw from aspects of CBT, ACT, Mindfulness and Meditation approaches that help us ease our relationship with our own minds while noticing limiting and restrictive beliefs we might unknowingly or knowingly hold about ourselves.
In my experience, creative methods can work best with young people who find it more difficult to voice what they are finding difficult.
While there are a number of different counselling modalities, the most important ingredient to healing and change is our relationship. It is always my intention and hope that we can create a positive working bond where you feel safe and understood.
